6th REMEDIES CLUSTER MEETING – Protected areas and citizens against plastic pollution

6th REMEDIES Cluster meeting “Protected areas and citizens against plastic pollution“ will be organized by the Institute of Anthropic Impact and Sustainability in marine Environment (IAS) and the Institute of Polymers, Composites and Biomaterials (IPCB) of the National Research Council (CNR) of Italy during the 7th REMEDIES General Assembly that will be held in Oristano, Sardinia. This event serves as a platform for critical discussions surrounding the challenges posed by plastic pollution in natural environments and the strategies needed to address them effectively.

“Protected areas and citizens against plastic pollution” promises to be an insightful and forward-thinking event where participants can engage with reading experts, exchange ideas and explore actionable strategies to address one of our most pressing environmental challenges. Your involvement in this event contributes to dialogue and plays a crucial role in shaping the future of plastic pollution management also through the innovations that are going to be tested in Sardinian demo site.

The event will feature a line up of prestigious speakers and expert panelists who will delve into the future frameworks designed to tackle the pervasive issue of plastics at sea. These discussions will encompass a range of topics, including the significant role of the MPA’s as important observatories of the litter pollution along the coasts. Attendees will gain insights into the recent ban on intentionally added plastics and microplastics, largely influenced by grassroots movements. 

Presented examples from Italian partners in project REMEDIES will emphasize the importance of understanding the full spectrum of plastic pollution to develop comprehensive solutions. Furthermore, the event will tie into other EU Mission Ocean and Waters projects, showcasing innovative, state-of-the-art solutions that are currently being implemented on the ground. These real-world case studies will illustrate effective strategies for mitigating microplastic pollution and highlight collaborative efforts across different sectors and disciplines.
