On October 11, 2024, the Esplora Interactive Science Centre in Malta hosted a special event celebrating the Island Guardians project, an inspiring initiative tackling marine plastic pollution in the Mediterranean. This project is funded through REMEDIES’ Open Call 1, which supports innovative solutions to reduce and manage marine litter.

Vesna Kuralt, Project Manager from the National Institute of Chemistry, represented the REMEDIES project at the event. She emphasized how Island Guardians aligns with the core mission of REMEDIES—to develop cutting-edge solutions for marine pollution while fostering collaboration between scientific research and local communities.

The Island Guardians project engages the public through interactive activities that raise awareness about plastic waste and inspire action to protect the Mediterranean Sea. By empowering communities and researchers alike, this initiative underscores the importance of collective efforts in safeguarding our oceans.

This celebration highlights the critical work being done under REMEDIES to foster sustainability and environmental stewardship across the region. For more information about Island Guardians here.
