The beach litter monitoring took place on March 17 th , in Hamallaj Beach, Albania. Hamallaj Beach is located along the Adriatic coastal area, about 14 kilometers southeast of the city of Durrës.
ETMI team monitored a 100-meter width of the beach according to the beach litter monitoring protocol. A total of 51 kg of waste were collected and sorted into the following categories: 28 kg of plastic waste composed of plastic caps, plastics bottles of cleaning products, plastic packaging from cosmetic and body care product, fragments of non-foamed plastic and foamed polystyrene; and 23 kg of other waste such as cardboard boxes, metal food cans, glass bottles and jars etc.
The categorization of the collected waste was made at the beach area and all the collected data were uploaded to the REMEDIES App. Volunteers and local NGOs supported the team during the monitoring and categorization of the waste. The next beach litter monitoring will take place on April.
