Citizen Science Demonstrations in the REMEDIES Project

Citizen science is one of the pillars of the REMEDIES project, engaging citizens to contribute data in the effort to reduce marine litter and advance a circular, zero-waste economy.

The partner VITO leads the citizen science work (Task 6.5), ensuring methodological rigor and coordination across the consortium. Impact Hub Athens supports community building and outreach, while NIC, VLPF, CNR, and INFORDATA contribute expertise and tools to make the citizen science protocols practical and accessible for a diverse audience.

Beach Litter Clean Ups

Led by Impact Hub Athens with the support of Venice Lagoon Plastic Free, Infordata, NIC and VITO, this theme engages volunteers in beach litter clean-up protocols using the REMEDIES ML (Marine Litter) App for Citizen Science.

Microplastic Release from Washing Machines

Led by CNR, this theme involves households and communities in testing washing machine filters and measuring microplastic release.

Join the REMEDIES movement!

Through collaborative, participatory methodologies and citizen science activities we want to create a more plastic-conscious society. We provide opportunities for stakeholders to act, learn and contribute to a plastic litter free and zero-waste future. Moreover, REMEDIES will support, with mentoring, coaching and financial resources, regions to boost the deployment of plastic litter collection and valorisation schemes as well as to push towards the development of zero-waste supply chains through two open calls for associate regions.
We are inviting stakeholders from across the globe to join us in this mission. By working together, we can create a healthier, more sustainable future for our oceans.
