On July 25, 2024, Esplora Interactive Science Centre and Zibel coordinated their second successful clean-up as part of the Island Guardians project, a winner of REMEDIES Open Call 1. This event took place at South Quay Cirkewwa and Paradise Bay, focusing on the seabed and shore, particularly the rocky outcrop areas.
The clean-up saw the enthusiastic participation of 47 dedicated volunteer divers and snorkelers. Their collective efforts resulted in the impressive collection of 919 kg of mixed waste, including 173 kg of plastic litter. This initiative highlights the critical need for addressing marine pollution and protecting Malta’s beautiful coastal environments.
This clean-up is part of the broader REMEDIES project, emphasizing community action and environmental stewardship. The Island Guardians project continues to make significant strides in promoting a plastic-free Mediterranean, demonstrating the power of collaboration and dedication to environmental conservation. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers for their hard work and commitment to making a positive impact on our marine ecosystems. Stay tuned for more updates on our journey towards sustainability and environmental protection.
