CNR leads the 4th International Conference on Microplastic Pollution (µMED)

By November 7, 2025News

The REMEDIES partner National Research Council of Italy (CNR) led the organization of the IV International Conference on Microplastic Pollution in the Mediterranean Sea (µMED), held 19–22 October 2025 at Hotel Continental, Ischia (Naples, Italy). µMED is a leading Mediterranean forum on micro- and nanoplastic pollution, gathering experts from science, industry, policy, and civil society to share the latest research and mitigation solutions.

This 4th edition, continuing the established series (2017, 2019, 2022), has convened 128 participants from 21 countries cementing µMED’s role as a hub for knowledge exchange and capacity building in the region.

The 2025 conference featured oral and poster sessions across core topics such as analysis and detection, environmental fate, impacts on ecosystems and health, and solutions and policies.

The main organizer (CNR) is a REMEDIES partner, and several contributors acknowledged REMEDIES in the Book of Abstracts, including:
Impact of Micro and Nano Plastics in Our Life (Lorena Affatato, IPCB-CNR).

  • Biodegradable polymer blends with lignin as UV stabilizer for eco-sustainable fishing nets (Roberta D’Auria, IPCB-CNR).
  • Other REMEDIES partners also presented activities related to allied projects. The organizing team is collecting extended abstracts for a forthcoming Springer volume, where relevant work may be linked to REMEDIES and related initiatives (building on the tradition of publishing µMED outputs).

For context, earlier µMED editions and proceedings highlight the conference’s scientific footprint and continuity, including published outputs and detailed programs.
