SEARCULAR is a research and innovation project, working to reduce marine litter and microplastic generated by fishing gear.
Working directly with the fishing industry to develop, test and refine four circular solutions to plastic waste, SEARCULAR is helping to support sustainable livelihoods and healthy marine ecosystems.
The four solutions are:
- Creating dolly ropes from recycled purse seine nets
- Developing demersal seine rope coating from biodegradable polymers
- Trialling an eco jellyFAD made from natural and biodegradable materials
- Development of a port-based approach for collection, sorting and conditioning of end-of-life fishing gear.
