REMEDIES participated in the Madeira Digital Transformation Summit, an international event dedicated to exploring how digital technologies can drive innovation, sustainability, and economic transformation. The summit brings together policymakers, researchers, startups, and industry leaders to discuss the role of digitalisation in addressing global challenges.
As part of the programme, REMEDIES contributed to the workshop:
“Digital solutions and innovations enabling healthier, safer, and more resilient waters and oceans”, held on Wednesday, 15 April.
The session focused on a pressing reality: Europe’s waters and oceans face increasing pressure from pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss. At the same time, digital technologies are transforming how marine and freshwater ecosystems are monitored, assessed, and restored.
Bringing together EU-funded projects including Restore4Life, EFFECTIVE, AUTOASSESS, REMEDIES, iMERMAID, TASC-RESTOREMED, and ADT4Blue, the workshop showcased practical digital tools and innovation pathways supporting the transition towards a sustainable Blue Economy.
REMEDIES contribution
REMEDIES was represented in the session by Lina Silveira (F6S), who presented the project’s work on marine litter detection, prevention, and community-driven innovation. The presentation highlighted how REMEDIES combines digital tools, data, and citizen engagement to address marine pollution in a scalable and impactful way.
From innovation to implementation
Through short, solution-focused presentations, speakers shared:
- AI-supported monitoring and surveillance systems
- digital platforms for environmental assessment
- tools for marine litter detection and ecosystem restoration
- innovation and acceleration programmes supporting blue economy ventures
The session also addressed key cross-cutting challenges such as data interoperability, digital skills, and the uptake of innovation, alongside the role of digital technologies in enabling more resilient water systems.
Strengthening collaboration across sectors
The workshop concluded with an open discussion, fostering exchange between innovators, policymakers, and investors. The dialogue highlighted the importance of collaborative, cross-sector approaches in scaling digital solutions and achieving long-term impact.
REMEDIES’ participation reinforces its role in advancing digital, scalable, and community-driven approaches to marine litter prevention and ocean restoration across Europe.
