On 28 May 2026, a REMEDIES Open Day was held in Umag, Croatia, presenting innovative solutions for reducing plastic waste at large-scale events. The initiative introduced festival visitors and industry professionals to new bio-based reusable cups and the Plug-and-Play 2 Zero-Waste system, demonstrating practical approaches to more sustainable event management.
The Open Day took place across two major events held in Umag on the same day: the Bridge Conference and the Welcome Day of Sea Star Festival.
During the Bridge Conference, one of Europe’s leading gatherings connecting professionals from the music and technology sectors, the REMEDIES team hosted an information booth where delegates and participants could learn more about the innovative cups and Plug-and-Play 2 Zero-Waste system. Promoters presented the material and environmental benefits of the cups, explained how the deposit-return scheme works, and shared the broader goals of the REMEDIES project in reducing single-use plastic waste at festivals and events.
The reusable cups were also put into practice later that evening during the Welcome Day of Sea Star Festival. Visitors attending the open-air screening of “Svadba” (The Wedding), the highest-grossing Croatian film of all time, had the opportunity to enjoy beer served in the REMEDIES cups while experiencing the unique atmosphere of the Nautilus Arena under the Istrian night sky.
By combining innovative product design, circular economy principles, and visitor engagement, the REMEDIES Open Day demonstrated how practical solutions can help festivals significantly reduce waste while maintaining a positive visitor experience.
The activities formed part of the REMEDIES project’s ongoing efforts to demonstrate, promote, and scale sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics across Europe’s cultural and event sectors.
