Executive Director of the Athanasios C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation
Daniel Kern is the leader of the Baden-Pfalz chapter, one of several chapters of the Surfrider Foundation Europe Germany (e.V.) in Germany. The organization was founded in 1990 as a non-profit and has since been dedicated to protecting Europe’s oceans, lakes, rivers, and coastlines.
In the Baden-Pfalz region, the local chapter organizes regular cleanups, raises awareness about waste reduction, and offers sustainability workshops, with a focus on keeping rivers and waterways clean. A particular emphasis is placed on an educational concept, in which the group visits schools to inform children and young people about these topics and raise awareness for the protection of waterways.
As part of a network of over 2,000 volunteers across 50 branches in 12 European countries, the Baden-Pfalz chapter exemplifies grassroots activism-the engagement of citizens who come together independently to drive tangible change locally.
“I support the vision of REMEDIES because I believe that protecting our oceans starts in our streams and rivers. Through my work with Surfrider Foundation Germany, I want to raise awareness of how our everyday actions affect the environment and show that change starts locally. I particularly value the combination of scientific knowledge and practical action. Only by understanding the causes and impacts of pollution can we develop effective and sustainable solutions. I believe that by sharing knowledge, working together across science and civil society, and taking action at the source, we can make a real difference for the future of our waters.”
