On July 6, 2024, a dedicated team of volunteers gathered at Bugibba Bay in Malta for a remarkable beach clean-up event. Organized Esplora and Zibel, this initiative aimed to tackle the growing problem of marine litter and promote environmental conservation. The activity was organised in view of the Awarded Project of the Open Call 1 of the REMEDIES program Island Guardians – for a Plastic-Free Med.
The clean-up took place from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, covering a stretch of 50 meters in length and 15 meters in width. With 69 enthusiastic volunteers participating, the team managed to collect a substantial amount of waste, significantly improving the condition of the beach. The results of this effort were impressive. The volunteers collected 78 kg of plastic litter and 573.5 kg of other types of waste. All the collected waste was responsibly disposed of, showcasing the dedication and hard work of the volunteers to make a positive impact on the local environment. The Bugibba Bay clean-up highlighted the power of community involvement and the impact of collaborative efforts in addressing environmental challenges.
