Beach litter monitoring with local NGOs, Albania

ETMI team organized a workshop on 30.01.2024, with the participation of local NGOs in Albania, in the framework of the REMEDIES project. The scope of the meeting was to introduce the beach litter monitoring protocol to local active NGOs in the field of marine litter,
environment, etc.

During the meeting, Meivis Struga, representative from ETMI held an in-depth presentation of the Marine litter protocol as submitted last year. The presentation was about the main criteria that need to be considered during identification of monitoring hotspots. After the presentation, Javier Delgado Gallardo from VITO, further explained the protocols. He presented step by step the usage of marine litter app for data uploading and monitoring.

The beach litter monitoring took place on 31.01.2024 along ISHEM river mouth. During the monitoring activity participated around 10 participants from ETMI, VITO, NIC and other local NGOs in Albania.

The identified amount of was larger than expected and the team decided to go for a testing monitoring actions with the purpose to enhance capacities of the local staff in the monitoring. The participants collected around 250 kg of waste during the activity.
